Gearing Up Your Platform with Publication Day in Mind

This is based on the End-of-the-Year Author Platform Tune-Up I posted up in December 2024 (planning to make this an annual tradition). During the year you are publishing your book, you are going to be making endless updates to your platform — so many, in fact, that it can become overwhelming. Having regularly scheduled “tune-ups” can make it easier to manage. I recommend a quarterly schedule, but this is totally up to the individual. Monthly might make more sense for some people.

But most definitely, it is crucial to do a platform tune-up one month before your book publishes. I recommend doing this tune-up right as the 30-day countdown to your pub date commences. The last thing you want to be doing is last-minute, frenzied updates to your website or social media profiles on or near your pub day. You will have much more important things to be doing on that day (like, you know, soaking it all in and celebrating, as well as, hopefully, getting ready for your launch event/book tour).
